I figured since we were taking a look at this great Panerai studio shot of the PAM 422, it would make sense to take a look at the watch. The PAM00422 is somewhat similar to a PAM00372, but it has the second hand at 9, and the Luminor Marina designation on the dial, along with the Panerai designation.
The 372 seems to be imbalanced with the large black void at the bottom of the dial, almost like it's missing something. Next is the crystal, 422 has a sapphire crystal which is much more durable and resistant to scratches, etc. The 372 has a plexi crystal, which is almost a scratch magnet.
The assolutamente strap that comes with the watch is beautiful and conforms very nicely to my wrist, personally I think it's one of the nicest default Panerai straps. Are there any downsides? Maybe but very minor. The 422 is, at least for now, the ULTIMATE timepiece for me. With Panerai, you can find many subtle variations of the same theme. So if the 422 is not right for you, you can look at other models with similar movements, smaller cases or more complex dials.
The main difference I see is an automatic movement. The new PAM 674 basically looks exactly like the PAM 422 from the front. The PAM 676 is also basically the PAM 422 but still hand-wound. The big difference is its only 42mm. Perhaps they're expanding their market to the smaller wristed fellas. Still, 42mm Panerai just doesn't look right in my .
